AP: Minnesota nurse is sixth person to die during U.S. immigration crackdown after Minneapolis shooting

The death of Alex Pretti, a 37-year-old intensive care nurse and U.S. citizen, has become the newest focal point of political anger over the Trump administration’s immigration crackdown after a Border Patrol officer shot him in Minneapolis, according to the Associated Press.

AP reported that Pretti is the sixth person to die in incidents linked to immigration enforcement actions during the crackdown. The report said Pretti was shot even though he was holding only a phone, and that Minnesota Governor Tim Walz condemned what he described as a misleading portrayal of Pretti by federal authorities.

The AP account placed the Minneapolis incident alongside other deadly encounters tied to federal enforcement. Earlier in January, another U.S. citizen, Renee Good, was shot in Minneapolis as she drove away from an ICE officer, AP said.
